This instructional manual is for making the ‘two circles’ cat of yours into
something more pleasing and distinguishable, for enhancing that sheep which looks like a cloud with a face, for turning your stick figures into cartoons, and more.
Learn the very basics of drawing easily by following this step-by-step tutorial and realize that drawing is something that is fun to do, and not something that becomes a cause of frustration.
To give you a hint of what this book is all about, look at this short list of tasks that you will learn to properly initiate after reading and following the tutorial.
Tasks
* Start with a loose sketch.
You need to define the first look of your drawing by sketching it first so it could serve as a pattern for your permanent outlines (defined outlines). If the lay-out of your primary sketch is too far-off from the final piece that you are after, the latter parts are going to be difficult.
* Define permanent outlines.
Trace your sketch to clearly define the contour shape (primary shape) of your drawing, and clean it up by erasing the sketch markings.
* Show/illustrate some texture. Texture contour provides a better portrayal of the shape’s dimension values. The details such as scales, fur or any print and texture should curve and flow with the contour shape of your subject and adjust with it accordingly.
* Draw the necessary details. Use a variety of line thickness and line weight (given pressure on the pencil) to show the right balance to the whole drawing, use thick lines for the parts that should visually dominate the drawing, and less visible and thin lines for the secondary details and parts that merely describe the object/subject’s form.

Well done drawing primer. It is as listed, a basic intro to drawing for those with no knowledge of drawing or someone who likes to draw, but hasn't a clue how to develop a drawing. Also, I do NOT understand the "functional illiterate" comment from another reader (such a mean boy:-(). Wow, no civility anymore--not to mention so UNTRUE. And the comment that the pictures are too small--don't know which Kindle you have, but on mine you just tap and you can make a picture whatever size you want--love that feature. Also did NOT find any "inappropriate" pictures--of course that's subjective--but seems fine to me. Anyway good book for the beginning artist.Product details

Learn to Draw Manual Drawing for the Absolute Beginner edition by John Davidson Adrian Sanqui Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

I bought this book today and I really lo0o0o0ove it!!! This one is for a real Beginners. Finally I found something that explains so perfectly how to start from A..B..C.. (I bought other books before and they are not really for beginners though they promissed to be so!)
I feel so safe to start now from the Basics. John Davidson did a REAL GREAT JOB on this book. God Bless him! This book is EXACTLY what I need and what I was looking for. I finally found it. -YESSSSS! (Y)
This a good starter. I can say that after I finished it my confidence has been raised for me to explore & learn more challenging techniques. If you are picking up your pencil again to jump back in this is not the book for you. It's a great absolute beginner book. As always practice practice practice
It's written like someone just randomly wrote their thoughts on drawing. No sense of order or building up from basic to advanced topics. Cannot recommend.
Good tips, clear illustration. I'm a lifetime crafter who has always wanted to draw free hand, not just trace others work. This little book is giving me the skills. confidence to put my picture thoughts on paper or wood, etc.
I'm a beginner and need to fill in some gaps on my knowledge of drawing in general and particularly in shading and proportions. This book has been more useful than the others I've looked at. I purchased 2 of their other books since getting this one. There's something good in each of them, and it is presented in a way that I can understand and easily follow.
If you have always wanted to start drawing, this book is an excellent introduction, actually it is a tutorial that shows in great detail how to proceed You learn what physical exercises will make your hand and arm "lighter", how to grip a pencil properly and how to use its tip and side, how you warm up for drawing. Next is sketching the drawing. You learn how to use sticks and shapes for the creation of fast cartoons, and how to detail your drawing by applying design, texture and shadows, smudging and layering. All instructions are well explained and illustrated, so it is easy to get started with your own drawings.
